Kilimanjaro, TZ – Lishe Bora mobilizes Mkyashi Water Project – 15 Aug 2020
Seeing the challenges facing the Mkyashi Water Committee, Lishe Bora undertakes the management of the project in order to assist re-organizing the program.
The Mkyashi Water Project suffers from low bill repayment and meeting attendance. For instance, even the committee does not pay their own bills and could not commit monthly meetings. Lishe Bora, understanding that this is a community-owned asset, stepped in and offered assistance.
Lishe Bora will be applying the Quality Balance principles and Check, Act, Plan, Do (CAP Do) routines to improve the Mkyashi Water Project. They established the root causes of the several challenges facing the project. They solved one challenge by electing a new bill collector. Additionally, another key member will act as a back up for the new bill collector. To address bill payment, Mary identified users who will pay and in turn, encourage others to pay.
Mary finds it especially challenging to organize the community behind the Mkyashi Water Project. It seems the community lost trust in the project due to inconsistency and confusion.
However, Mary and Lishe Bora are undeterred by the challenges and plans to increase the sustainability of the program. They have started the CAP Do routine to create a habit of continuous improvement.
