Kilimanjaro, TZ – Water for our Primary School Children’s Health at Kisuluni – Sep 2023
Lishe Bora team, with support from their partner Tupendane, has made it possible for the children and community of Kisuluni primary school area to access free stream water sourced from a mountainside spring that is fed by the melting glaciers of Mount Kilimanjaro.
This achievement is now benefitting the grow your own breakfast (GoB) program of Kisuluni primary by providing a reliable water source for their banana and vegetable gardens, which supply a daily meal for the 130 children at the school.
It has also helped save time working on the gardens and serving breakfast by delivering easy access to water all the time, and has also improved the other water uses at the school, like sanitation and general school envinronment cleaning. It has also saved the school money that is normally spent on paying monthly water bills.
Now that water is permanently assured at the school year round, so the next plan is to create more improved techniques for the GoB program that will ensure more food production is achieved because the school’s main challenge is now land scarcity.
