Kilimanjaro, TZ – Family garden is recovering after the dry season – 30 Nov 2021
The CT family are again enjoying eating and selling vegetables from their organic vegetable garden, which the Lishe Bora team has assisted them to build after the family found that their one vegetable bed could not produce enough to feed their family. The children’s health is growing better from eating green vegetables, and the family saves 2,000 TZS / US$1 each week from their vegetable sales.
Previously, the family had been unable to replant the full garden during the dry season because their tap water supply was not sustainable for the whole dry season. This is because this year’s drought started early, following an earlier than normal rainy season, and they needed to look after their sick grand mom.
The family are now dreaming of adding more market garden beds to their home food garden, because increasing the market income will help pay water bills and save for home improvement projects.
