Utete, TZ – Family sells chickens to purchase a home water connection – 31 Aug 2021
The OMM family are feeling encouraged because their chicken project continues to gradually recover after the pandemic lock-down, and they now have a clean water supply for their home. This is because they sold enough chickens to pay to connect a stand-pipe to the main water supply.
This has been their best sales ever, harvesting 30 chickens and earned US$ 125 / 285,000 TZS that paid for the water connection. Their chicken and sesame income paid for all the plumbing materials, trenching and plumber.
Mr OMM is now thinking about how to reduce chicken business risks and increase income growth. For example, they have no milled chicken feeds suppliers in their area, so they have to make the feed locally or buy from close-by towns. He is also concerned about vaccinating the remaining chickens he wants to grow and sell.
He is also thinking about goats as a business to supply milk for his and other families’ children in order to strengthen their health.
