Battambang, KH – Families start to replant as the flooding recedes – 30 Nov 2020
The Healthy Life Reinforcement shop team is assisting families to restart their gardens now that the land is drying out following the recent terrible flooding. The team is assisting with supplies of compost, seeds and seedlings, and mentoring about garden design.
The vegetables will be mainly for home consumption and selling to neighbors because it is difficult to sell the surplus vegetables in the market, now that COVID-19 has reared its head again causing schools to close and people to stay away from the markets.
When COVID first appeared earlier in the year, people stayed at home and the markets closed so parents lost their jobs and could not sell surplus vegetables from their gardens. This left them short of money for buying rice and other food staples. At that time the shop team assisted the poorest families with supplies of rice, cooking oil and other basic food items.
Now the flooding is over, the team is hopeful that COVID-19 will be brought under control after the recent increases in infection risk caused by the virus being brought into the country from abroad.
