Ngara, TZ – Mukibogoye initializes corn farming project – 15 Sept 2020
With the help of SODAT, Mukibogoye Primary School successfully planned the 2020 corn farming and planted seeds in the ground.
Planning, forecasting, and organizing people in order to maintain a school-based farm is no task for the light-hearted. David, the manager of SODAT, matches the school’s schedule with the farming schedule to ensure that the students will have time to work on the farms without overburdening them. For instance, farming corn successfully in Ngara requires a dedicated weeding schedule. However, to weed, school students need to be available! Fortunately, David, the school headmasters, and school teachers meticulously reviewed the farming schedule.
Dedicating time for planning and organizing allows schools to know and prepare with some assistance from David. Due to this, each school expects its best corn harvest to date. Over the previous years, SODAT and the schools realized that weeding was not thoroughly completed. In acknowledging and adjusting for this, They are hopeful they will prevail.
The weather is signaling that Tanzania is expecting minimal rainfall this year. This is the opposite of the heavy rainfall previously experienced since 2019. Many farms were experiencing too much rainfall.
Each school is hopeful they will farm above their harvest estimates this year with dedicated weeding and farming best practices.
