Utete, TZ – KCM compiles list of services to provide to community – 15 June 2020
Following their recent success in building a shed and compost boxes and the rise in interest in the group due to their construction skills, KCM worked together to compile a list of services they could provide or sell to the community.
KCM Group is comprised of a social enterprise. They provide vegetables daily to the kindergarten and to the leper community of Utete. Recently they professionally rebuilt their shed and compost boxes to the delight of the community. This prompted them to collectively bargain for more work.
The benefit of working together on their marketing means they’ll be viewed as a professional group rather than individual contractors. Dickson provides transportation services that are highly regulated and professional. Asha provides sewing services for children needing cloth repairs and, most recently, face masks to protect people from coronavirus. Frank and Yusa provide agricultural support to the community. and Frank has the ability to rent out his pump to local farmers so they can irrigate their farms.
However, they are challenged by the available money and customers in the area. Utete is not known for its dearth of resources. Finding steady income is not often found, but piece work is available.
KCM hopes to become financially self-reliant while increasing the community’s whole worth.
