Ngara, TZ – Continued teamwork creates great harvest for daily breakfast feeding – 15 April 2019
Mukibogoye students are able to join SODAT’s garden club lead by Shafan and Elias. The group is comprised of between 18 and 30 students depending on the day. They take a lot of pride in their garden work and their effort has shown.
The school garden provides green vegetables to Mukibogoye school. The school garden is maintained, in large part, due to the efforts of the school students. The students will prepare, plant, maintain, and harvest garden beds. They are taught and mentored by SODAT’s two garden managers, Shafan and Elias.
In addition to the daily vegetables provided for the school breakfast, the school students receive lessons in best garden practices. The students learn how to prepare seedlings, compost, and organic sprays to boost soil health and ward away unwanted pests.
The students are quite adept at growing consistent vegetables, but the garden area is limited in size. They hope to find more space to grow more vegetables to sell in the local market!
