Battambang, KH – SLT sells fattened pigs in time for Khmer New Year – 28 Apr 2017
The SLT family sold the pigs they purchased with a ‘Healthy Life’ loan in time to capitallise on the inflated prices that come from the national holiday of the Khmer New Year. They used the profit they earned for their children’s education costs and for home improvements.
The SLT family received a loan to buy four piglets from the Healthy Life Garden Shop. After six months they sold the fattened pigs for US$586. After subtracting the cost of feed, other necessary expenses and repaying their loan; they received a net income of US$236. They are using this profit to pay for new uniforms for their children and to start to save for a new corrugated iron roof for their home.
During the dry season the family were forced to purchase water because their normal source had dried up. This reduced their overall profit and so they are looking to dig a well in the near future.
The family are eager to continue to increase their income so they can make further improvements to their home.
