Siem Reap, KH – EL family starts shop with income from garden and livestock – 27 May 2016
EL and his wife started a small shop on the road to Siem Reap where they sell various daily essential items. They built the shop structure and purchased the first inventory by using money they had saved from selling vegetables from their garden and selling livestock.
For the first two months of operating the shop, they earned a net income of US$3 per day by selling: salt, rice, noodles, vegetables, tea, water and juice amongst other things. Half of their earnings went to their young children’s school fees and the other half was kept as retained earnings for the shop.
The EL family would like to buy a refrigerator and expand their shop by building a shaded sitting area so customers can relax and enjoy a cold beverage. However, electricity is currently unavailable in the shop’s location, so they are using a cooler and ice to chill their drinks in the meantime.
