Battambang, KH – Students are excelling – 31 Mar 2014
Our students are excelling – and our partner school- and our partner schools are beginning to notice.
- Five (5) Children’s Future students who attend private school were honored this month with a certificate signifying that they are among the top three in their respective classes.
- Twenty (20) additional students who attend private school also received honors for being among the top students in their class last semester.
- Fifty (50) more students received honors for being among the top students in public school.
The students were beaming with pride as they received their awards. This means that one-third of Children’s Future beneficiaries were honored as being top students in their classes. This is remarkable because many of the students went from being out of school altogether, or not receiving consistent education, to now being acknowledged for their superior academic performance.
The decision to switch from public to private school for some of our students has allowed for better education and preparation for higher education. The combination of private school and Children’s Future International’s supportive services has improved performance, attendance and motivation for all of the students attending private school. The students report that the private school teachers support their learning, their questions are answered, and they are challenged. Additionally, the students’ self-confidence and academic diligence have skyrocketed. Children’s Future staff are bursting with pride and thinking about how to expand this opportunity. Please click here to hear from a few of the high school students.
Savin is the first high school graduate in her family and re-entered school after dropping out for two years to work and help sustain the family.
“I don’t even want to think about where I would be now if I hadn’t had the chance to return to school. It makes me sick just thinking about it. I can’t believe how lucky I was.”
During her last two years of school, she volunteered countless hours at the CFI Learning Center, proving her talent and commitment to working with vulnerable children. After her graduation in August 2012, Savin received a university scholarship [through CFI and Help-for-Hope]* and began tertiary education in Battambang. Simultaneously, she began an internship at CFI as a social work intern and healthcare assistant. Due to her personal background, Savin can relate deeply to the difficulties CFI’s children face on a daily basis. She is one of our most courageous and outspoken female staff members when it comes to advocating on behalf of the children with their caretakers, doctors or teachers. Savin is quickly becoming a skilled counselor for girls and women and has already established herself as an invaluable part of the CFI social work team.
“I want every child to have their basic needs met. I wish all kids could stay with their families and receive love and warmth from them. I am so happy for my scholarship and the training that I am receiving.”
