The Lishe Bora team had a lot of fun planting a new garden with the third graders at Kilema Primary School. The kids were excited, inquisitive, and eager to get to work. With so many extra hands, this was the fastest garden the Lishe Bora team had ever made. Usually new gardens take between two and three full days of work to complete. The kids at Kilema Primary School finished in less than one! Many hands – no matter how small – really do make light work.

Since starting their garden, the school has struggled to find a good system for keeping up with maintenance. The first few weeks of a garden are the most challenging because the garden requires a lot of work without much reward. Previously, the school employed traditional gardening methods which did not require any watering but also did not produce much food and the only crops that could be grown were local strands of a few vegetables. The FAITH Garden method of gardening will produce a higher volume and variety of food, but will also require an adjustment in habits. The Lishe Bora team is currently trying to help the school make that adjustment.

Already, the school is having some success with Kale, Chinese cabbage, zucchini, and cucumber plants coming in well. We hope to spread this success to other crops as well.
