Kilimanjaro, TZ – Kilimanjaro Catering service changing community families’ lives – Apr 2025
Kilimanjaro Catering is a community-based group with the goals of economic empowerment through catering services. We serve a variety of events in our local area, including weddings, sendoffs, memorials, graduations, baptisms, and birthdays, to generate a sustainable income.
Through hard work and solidarity of our members we reached over 1,000 people in marketing our business, which built relationships and trust for the community families tenders. As a result we got a tender to cater a large event with over 1,400 guests, breaking our previous records. This achievement has strengthened our confidence and capacity to take on even larger catering contracts.
Our service has enabled us to create employment opportunities, particularly for women and youth in the surrounding areas. These jobs provide valuable income and practical skills, improving livelihoods and promoting social inclusion. Our services now contribute economic growth to our group members and to the broader community by stimulating Vicoba savings.
We currently look forward to adding essential catering equipment such as chairs, tents, serving dishes, and food warmers to earn even more income. This shortage limits our ability to serve larger events and led us to hire sufficient resources. This means that we need to continue our sustainable growth to self-sufficient reliance, we need to improve our business income through available opportunities such as:
- Expand our service capacity with modern and adequate equipment
- Launch an equipment rental service to generate additional income
- Strengthen our ability to serve large events efficiently by training.
- Create more job opportunities and support local economic growth
- Share savings efforts with village community banks such as Vicoba savings for individual loans and benefits for home development and children’s lives.
Kilimanjaro Catering shows how small groups can make a big difference using creativity, limited resources, and teamwork. We hope that with the support of development partners for social groups, we can achieve our dream of becoming a sustainable business and an economic pillar for our community’s prosperity.
