Kilimanjaro, TZ – The DM family are experiencing housing challenges – 15 Mar 2021
Lishe Bora learned about the DM family’s housing challenges during a recent mentoring visit. Mother DM is single and cares for two boys. One of them is mentally handicapped so the other son looks after their home. They cook, eat and sleep in one old room, and use a similarly old drop toilet that is not as sanitary as it should be to fully protect the family’s health from water born disease.
The mentoring visits are normally for providing individualized training that assists families to maintain their home vegetable gardens. However, when learning about the family’s housing challenges, Lishe Bora spent extra time assisting with garden maintenance, provided compost and seeds, and scheduled a return visit to learn more about their situation.
The mentoring team is planning on researching ways to mobilize some community assistance for the family. Some options may be assistance from the local Village Community Banking (VICOBA) group or from local government.
