Siem Reap, KH – Student group contribues hardwork and smiles to Peaksneng community – 16 Jul 2019
10 students, 2 teachers, and 1 True Adventure leader from St John School and Leatherhead School spent 5 days working with Peaksneng Thormacheat Shop. In addition to spending time playing with neighborhood children and getting to know the community and culture, the students also supported Peaksneng’s organic vegetable gardening program. The group’s accomplishments include creating:
- 6 organic compost piles
- 3 family vegetable gardens
- Organic pest repellent and booster sprays
- 300 vegetable seedlings
The group was smaller than many groups Peaksneng hosts, so they had to work very efficiently to complete all of their objectives. They also made time to build relationships with community members and Peaksneng team members.
“Our team loves getting to meet visitors,” explains Peaksneng Thormacheat Shop manager Rey Diaz, “It’s fun to learn about the rest of the world and to feel like people want to experience your way of life as well. Also for the families who live here – especially the kids – oh my goodness they love having visitors!”
