Mt. Kilimanjaro, TZ – Student groups learns about the importance of a holistic approach to development – 12 May 2016

lishe bora vicoba_editedLishe Bora hosted a group of 14 college students for a day of site visits and educational tours. The group came all the way from King’s College at Western University in London, Ontario. Their primary interest was learning from Lishe Bora about which initiatives were having the greatest impact on local families.

The students visited the Mkyashi Water Project, Lishe Bora Agricultural Store, and then participated in a mock VICOBA meeting. The three initiatives illustrated to the group how important it is to think holistically when considering community and economic development. Each of the three initiatives fulfilled a local need, but none of them would have been sufficient on their own to help families move along the Path to Self-Reliance.

All 14 of the visiting students were female and most had a particular interest in women’s rights and gender equality. Thus, they were also very interested in hearing about Mary’s experiences managing an organization in Tanzania as a young woman.
