Utete, TZ – Growth of KCM projects creates life changing opportunities for families and children – Oct 2024
Better Lives invited UK school groups to visit and contribute to KCM community projects. These visits have created hosting job opportunities that benefit the lives of the community’s groups, schools, and families.
KCM successfully hosted UK volunteer students, who played a crucial role assisting with funding and volunteering to assist with life changing sustainable projects. The projects included establishing banana and vegetable gardens for four breakfast program schools.
Additionally, KCM initiated a sewing training program aimed at empowering women and youth, specifically through the production of reusable sanitary pads to BBTT girls school and Juhudi Vicoba women empowerment group. This initiative not only aids young primary and secondary students but also provides financial and health support for needy families and children.
This growth has directly led to employment opportunities for community members Miriam and Saidi. They provide valuable guidance on best practices of garden maintenance and conduct sewing training for community groups and school clubs, which make their lives easier and more enjoyable.
Formerly, Miriam and Saidi volunteered three years assisting with the KCM garden production of sustainable breakfast for FRRTL kindergarten children, lepers and community families. They are now committed to deliver gardening training and essential tools to student gardening clubs. This will promote quality gardening practices that sustain harvests for the local disadvantaged families and school children. They collaborate well with the KCM Manager Dixon, and mentor school garden clubs twice a week to maintain the garden quality.
This teamwork encourages knowledge sharing with parents, promotes economic self-sufficiency, and healthy living through the grow-own-breakfast programs. These initiatives build skills for community members, fostering long-term empowerment for sustainable living.
