Utete, TZ – Village Community Banking (VICOBA) group is assisting families who assist their community – Dec 2023

RYJ joined the Village Community Banking (VICOBA) group called Vicoba Volunteer Families ( V V F ) believing that the savings, knowledge and loans from the Vicoba would give her family a better future life, by assisting her to launch a local restaurant to earn a sustainable income for home improvement and children education.

RYJ is a single mother who lives a unique life with her three children engaging in agriculture and entrepreneurship in the community. She likes to participate in social activities and volunteer her time and energy for other people like school breakfast preparations at KLCCDA kindergarten and gardening production at KCM for improving children’s and needy groups health in the community.

RYJ’s daughter Nurat, a 4 years old student at KLCCDA kindergarten, said she is enjoying with her fellow students her mother preparing breakfast at school for their health each school day. Her son Idrisa 9 years old has completed nursery and joined Siasa primary school serving breakfast program and continuing receiving breakfast which making him happy and enjoying education life. Shafii 13 years oldest first son dropped out of school due to lack of education support after his parents’ separation, which led to a hard life time remaining with their mother. He takes care of his young brother and sister which gives an opportunity for their mom to work and find food.

RYJ finally received 150,000 TZS small loan from V V F Vicoba to start a restaurant in nearby Bibititi by the new school to serve builders, students and passing by people. She is earning a minimum net income of 7,000 TZS / US$3 per day selling breakfasts.

RYJ’s target is to provide lunch and later dinner services because there is a big demand in the area. She wants to build a comfortable restaurant that is fit for the purpose to serve more customers. This will enable her to generate enough income for sustainable Vicoba savings, so she can qualify for loans for home improvements and children’s education for better future lives for her family.
