Ngara, TZ – SJ’s poultry business success assists him to start a timber business – Dec 2023

In addition to his poultry business, SJ has launched a new business selling timber after harvesting from the three acres of tree fields planted by his family.

They planted Eucalyptus, Pine and Carton trees, which are good for timber and fire wood. He has planted them since 2014 for commercial purposes, to assist the community with availability of timber for home construction and furniture. He received the business license and permits to harvest the trees when they are fully grown ready to harvest.

A tree takes ten years and above to be harvested for timber, so SJ buys tree seedlings from the Mazingira Vicoba (MGV) tree nursery to replace harvested trees on the family land for future harvesting.

He earns 50,000 TZS / US$ 20 minimum for one tree, and is expecting to earn more money from his trees and use the money to buy other people’s tree fields. He wants to expand his business into the town center and believes that the more businesses he has, the more he can earn and become self-reliant.
