Moshi, TZ – Training children for sustainable living – May 2023

Children, teachers, parents of primary schools in Kahe, Moshi, Tanzania are practicing a Grow-own-Breakfast program in collaboration with Tupendane.

The program has benefited the children and teachers by giving them access to their daily breakfast servings at school, which was not the case before when many children were not given access to food at schools during school days due mainly to the level of poverty in the community.

Through training and organization into school garden clubs, organic vegetable growing knowledge has been shared with primary school children. Some of them have taken this knowledge back home and now they have a few vegetable beds at home where the harvest is shared with their family. The children have sold some of their harvested vegetables to neaby neighbours who are in need of food. This way they have assisted neighbours and managed to gain an income to pay for some of their school materials.

Tupendane in collaboration with the schools has started to follow-up with these hardworking children, and is working to design a program that supports their efforts and positively impacts their lives and others in the community.
