Digos City, PH – Squash garden creates better health and income – Apr 2023

The Sunrise shop has become a good example and mentor of growing techniques to the families in Barangay Colonsabak, Purok 5 Barak. The shop shares knowledge about how to grow vegetables for food on the table for the children, and to earn additional income.

Barangay Colonsabak, Purok 5 Barak has achieved impressive economic growth since last last year because of a farm to market road project by the government that assists the farmers to transport their products to the market. However, a significant portion of the population remains poor with limited access to sufficient income and nutritious food for the family. The Sunrise garden shop assists these families.

Elias is one of the families that Sunrise shop has assisted. He has learned to choose the right crops to plant depending on the season and the prices in the market. His family was assisted by the garden shop team to start a squash garden. After few month, he was blessed with plenty of harvest of squash so he has plenty of supply for his family and making income from selling his produce. He is so pleased by the team work given to him by the Sunrise shop team located in Barack, Colonsabak, Davao del Sur, Philippines.

Elias says he is very thankful to the team, especially the Cambodian team manager Rey who supports Sunrise and made this garden program a reality. Elias’s dream is to one day own small plot and have a small house.
