Ngara, TZ – Students learn and participate in Kabalenzi school clean water installation – 31 Dec 2022
SODAT in collaboration with KBL school’s board and parents continued improving their children’s life, health, and learning environment by building toilet blocks and installing clean water systems to their school.
Water is the basic need for many creatures to survive, and SODAT believes that water is among the six paths to self-reliance, others are Land, Home, Education, Health and Income. The schools require water for serving breakfast, drinking, cleaning and gardening production purposely for feeding students and earning income.
Since KBL school started, the students used to carry water and firewood from their homes for a daily school breakfast serving program. Despite the school having a rainwater catchment system, it is still facing water challenges due to drought caused by weather factors and system improvements. This made SODAT and Better Lives to fund the school water project for the reliable clean water supply to save the student’s energy and time to focus more on their studies.
SODAT provided all plumbing materials and plumber mentor, students dug the trench, underlined and covered the water intake hose. Parents contributed their money and time in building the water tank stand and twelve toilet holes including a private changing room for girls.
The School plan is to improve the rain water harvesting system to minimize clean water bill costs for the school and parents from classes cleanliness and start gardening for feeding programs at school. The school has 45,000L water tanks donated by the world bank that store enough water to sustain gardening annually.
