Moshi, TZ – Earning income for sustainable feeding program at Kahe Primary School – 30 Nov 2022
Tupendane has been improving the design of its GOB (Grow your Own Breakfast) program at the primary schools in Tanzania. One of the improvements strategy towards ensuring the sustainability is the capacity building for the schools themselves. We have been able to assist through knowledge sharing, infrastructures provisions and mentoring about making productive market gardens in the schools.
The market gardens have started to assist schools to earn their own income through the vegetables sales to the local market in Kahe. The school sales committee is supervising the income that is deposited into their school bank account. The money will be used by the schools for the feeding program running expenses in near future, which is a huge step towards their own financial capacity building.
The Children, teachers and parents are still facing a challenge of a low price for their organic products in the available market as compared to their competitors who sell inorganic products for a higher price.
Tupendane is dreaming of continuing to educate the Kahe society on the both the health and economic advantages of organic products over non-organic, and at the same time seeking additional markets outside Kahe in the big cities like Arusha and Moshi where organic products are more popular.
