Utete, TZ – Asha’s next step on the path to her family’s sustainability – 31 Aug 2022
Asha has generously given her first house, which was built with a loan from KCM, to her mother and two sons to live in.
Asha is is married, and tradition does not permit a husband to stay in his wife’s family home. So she and her husband Ntonga have lived in a rented house since they married, and have dreamt of owning a home of their own. It has been difficult to save enough money to buy one because Asha has a long term sickness without complete recovery that has made her unable to work full time. She has been working for KCM when she is able to, while starting a tailoring business, and planting sesame on her farm land.
This year, she harvested 250 Kgs from her sesame harvest and earned 500,000 TZS / US$ 220 that she has used to pay a deposit for her new house. The rest will paid in installments to complete paying a total of 1 Million TZS when she will own the house.
She wants to offer a better life of her two sons in the future, so she plans to renovate the new house when she has full ownership. Asha feels very encouraged about her sons Hemmed and Omary, because they both volunteered their time assisting KCM with vegetable gardening for the kindergarden and disadvantaged people in their community.
