Moshi, TZ – Adding an electricity connection builds hope for the future – 28 Feb 2022
Last year Tupendane qualified for a loan to purchase a parcel of land in Kahe, for the purpose of assisting disadvantaged families to support their earning and health needs. The plan is do this over time by building and renting business premises and homes that the families need and want, at monthly rates that they are willing and able to pay.
The land’s infrastructure was facing a challenge of lack of electricity connection, so Tupendane decided to build a small rent to earn (RTE) shop as a first small step to attract the Electricity Company to connect the land with power. This step has been successful as the shop is now connected with electricity, which makes it easier to supply future commercial facilities and homes. The next small step is for the shop to start providing goods and services that the local community need and are willing and able to pay for.
The immediate dream is to use the shop facility to start generating income, and use the power connection to develop other economic activities so as to add more value to the land so that the area will become a sustainable community. Realizing this dream in small steps will assist Tupendane to develop its own sustainable capacity to assist the community. A capacity to assist families and schools to support their children so that they can grow up healthy, educated and earning income of their own for supporting their own future families.
This should have a general impact on the economy of the people in Kahe because of the income multiplier effect of one family’s income becoming spending that is income for other families. Many families can be touched in this way according to what they are passionate about and committed to.
