Kilimanjaro, TZ – Family continues to feed despite garden setback – 15 Feb 2020
Kilimanjaro region is receiving extensive rain this year, causing some rot, but despite the setback, CLN family continues to benefit from their garden and feed their family.
February often brings a lot of rain in Kilimanjaro. Many families use this time to prepare farms to take advantage of the rain. This year, CLN family lost some garden beds due to rot. However, due to maintaining best practices, the remaining garden beds can still sustain the family with healthy green vegetables.
The continued performance of the garden is important because one of CLN parent’s children is studying hard at becoming a trade welder. Additionally, the younger children are working hard at Primary school. Each child needs extra vegetables to help fuel them for their days.
CLN family is currently facing some pest challenges with their corn farm. They are expecting a reduced harvest as they don’t have the resources to deal with the pest issues.
They hope to increase their chicken husbandry project from 30 to 50 chicks. CLN family is experienced in animal husbandry projects as they have goats and dairy cows to help them maintain their sustainability.
