Kikondo, UG – YNM Family expands market garden – 15 Jan 2020

YNM Family has been assisted with advice from Wamukisa, and is investing in expanding their market vegetable growing. They have maintained their garden since they built it with Wamukisa in 2018. Now, after two years of good growth, they have expanded their garden and even built a small vegetable sales kiosk.

They improved the productivity of their family garden that they eat from, and applied the improved gardening techniques to a market garden where they grow vegetables in bulk for selling. The income from these sales enabled the family to save and invest in opening a small kiosk by their home for displaying and selling vegetables and other small home goods. Last year, they managed to save 300,000 UGS / US$83 in the Zinabala VICOBA group, which they plan to use to further expand their vegetable growing and sales.

The gardens depend on seasonal rains, which can be unreliable at times. So the family and Wamukisa are thinking about how to make the water supply more predictable.
