Battambang, KH – HSH feeds his family and plans for the future – 6 Jan 2017

Mr. HSH feeds his family from his organic vegetable garden and also earns an income. He plans to raise livestock to help him achieve his long-term dreams.

The family are able to earn US$5 to US10 each month from their garden after their own family’s vegetable consumption needs have been met. The extended garden allows the family to plant a larger variety of vegetables which is good for their children’s health and also for improving the profit from sales of vegetables at the market.

One month this year, it was difficult to keep the garden properly watered because their main water source, a fish pond, dried up and they had to walk five times the distance to the river. The family worked together and were able to make it past the dry period and have maintained a productive garden.

The family dreams of improving their home and sending their children to University. In order to achieve their dreams, HSH is planning to start raising pigs, chickens and cows.
