Siem Reap, KH – SHR uses garden’s income to repair house – 10 Jun 2016
SHR lives with his wife and two children in Peaksneng village. They joined Peaksneng Thormacheat organic vegetable garden program in 2015 and have been able to use the income they earn from their garden to repair the roof on their house.
Like many families in rural Cambodia, the SHR’s perform many tasks in order to make enough money to support their family and the organic vegetable garden has become a crucial piece to their family’s well-being. The family have worked hard in their garden and were able to earn US$12 per week for the last six months from selling surplus vegetables.
They used this additional income to repair their roof to make it water tight for the rainy season. Also, they were able to feed their children nutritious vegetables like; gourds, morning glory, and eggplants every day.
SHR and his wife want to expand their income generating activities beyond farming and want to start to raise cows and pigs to be able to earn enough income for future expenditures.
