Siem Reap, KH – Family earns profit from selling pigs and expands vegetable garden – 8 Jan 2016

LC and his son getting ready to plant their expanded organic vegetable gardenThe LC family received a livestock micro-loan from a family in the UK via the Better Lives loan fund that is administered in Siem Reap by Peaksneng Thormacheat garden shop. It enabled them to purchase two piglets to fatten and sell. The family was able to sell the male pig for a profit and keep the female for breeding. After repaying their loan, they used the remaining money to expand their organic vegetable garden.

The increased income from the expansion of the garden has allowed the family to buy additional piglets to fatten, which can fetch up to US$250 per pig depending on the weight. The family has been able to buy a small solar panel and light kit, an irrigation system for their garden and improve the roof on their home with the money that they have saved from LC’s teacher’s salary and the additional income from their expanded livestock and vegetable growing.
