Utete, TZ – RKM Family Garden – 9 Dec 2013

The RKM family had a very good crop of leafy greens.  They produced 20 handfuls ( called “funga” ) of the vegetables from two beds, which they sold for 300 TZS per handful earning a total of 6,000 TZS (US$4) .

The family has also grown eggplant and tomato plants that are almost ready to start flowering. Their major challenge is the vikoti that eat the leaves and stunt growth. Once an organic solution to this pest has been found they expect to increase the food and income generated by their garden.
