Caba, PH – DET family impacted by storms – 31 Aug 2013

In August, the third month of the rainy season of the Philippines, a dreadful storm struck the country.  It hit the family’s province of La Union, and caused massive damage to many farms.  Fields were flooded, trees fell, and even main roads were blocked by mud slides from the mountain sides. The DET family garden was badly damaged.
The Happy Shine Garden team came to the family’s aid and helped them reconstruct the beds and fencing that had been damaged.  The earlier mentoring about relay planting helped the family survive this challenge because they had a supply of string beans during the crisis period when prices of basic commodities like string beans shot up.  The family were able to get a reasonable harvest of the beans, so they were able to sell them for a good price and increase their savings.
