Digos City, PH – Food Always In The Home (FAITH) garden can change a family’s life – Dec 2023
In many rural parts of Philippines, access to nutritious food and earning a income is limited, which leads to malnutrition and very low income among families. It is crucial to address this issue, and Sunrise team of Mindanao believes that one effective solution is the implementation of a Food Always In The Home (FAITH) garden project. Such initiatives aim to empower families to grow their own vegetables enabling them to have a sustainable source of food.
Take an example of Mr. Alcain who found his hope in FAITH garden project. He grew up all his life in farming and he knows how hard life was. FAITH garden is different for him, as he explains to us.
“I discover that there is more than just growing corn and rice all year round. Faith garden has a lot to offer for farmers. The mixture of different plants in one place. This technique prepare me for bigger size garden. Now I started bitter gourd, chilli and beans for my commercial garden. I have started harvesting and selling my beans.
One of the greatest thing I see in faith garden, it has inspired my children, they always want to come to farm harvesting vegetable because they know that it will feed them when they arrive home. Other good thing to mention from this experience, is the feeling self of belonging as gardener. Chico the in charge of faith garden project who is always there when I am not sure what to do in the garden. The team support has good impact on me, the faith garden provides me with a sense of empowerment and self-sufficiency.
The greatest challenge for me at the moment is to find good market for my extra product and second is the type of soil we have in this area . We look forward to learn more good things from Sunrise shop. Thank you.”
The Sunrise team congratulates Mr. Alcain for making a success of his FAITH garden and developing his commercial garden because these can be first steps on a path to sustainable living. The team enjoys assisting his family.
