Kikondo, UG – HHL Family hopes to become a model home for other families – 15 Sept 2020
HHL family is a member of Kigasa Women’s Group VICOBA and learns from Wamukisa. They have been a member of each since 2018. Most recently, they’ve positioned themselves to be a demonstration home for other families.
HHL Family has been implementing farming techniques with the assistance of Wamukisa since 2018. This family is very dedicated to self-improvement and advancement. After successfully growing everything from vegetables to mushrooms, the family decided to format their home to be a model home for other families to follow.
They hope to help Wamukisa with their extension and mentorship work in the area. Wamukisa employees practice the gardening techniques at their own homes but live in an area further away from HHL and the surrounding families. As such, Wamukisa directs families to visit HHL to view their demonstrations and techniques. Additionally, the HHL family works with Kigasa Women’s Group families to improve their own gardens.
Like most families in the area, HHL is troubled by the lack of access to quality seeds readily available. Wamukisa is able to travel to cities to get access to these quality seeds and provide them to families in the area.
HHL Family hopes that soon they’ll have regular visitors from the VICOBA group and can begin helping families reorganize their own living spaces into food growing spaces.
