Moshi, TZ – JMM family visit – 29 Mar 2013

March has been a productive month for the JMM family.  They have been able to supply the Tupendane shop with healthy seedlings, harvest an acre of maize and maintain a beautiful organic vegetable garden.

Adding compost to JMM garden’s raised beds

When they first started the garden, Mr. JMM built robust raised beds, and now during the heavy rains he is reaping the benefits of his initial hard work.  While other gardens are flooding and washing all the nutrients out the soil, the garden is retaining the nutrient rich soil.  To maintain the beds, the Tupendane team brought them more compost!  The family are also preparing to place mulch on top of the beds to help maintain moisture better, reduce soil erosion, and to add more organic material to the soil.
