Battambang, KH – OSV plans to install electricity with pig sales – 3 Mar 2017
OSV received a loan to raise piglets from the Healthy Life Garden Shop in September 2017 and is getting ready to sell them just in time for Cambodia’s largest holiday, Khmer New Year. She plans to use the money she earns from the sale of her pigs to install electricity in her home.
She is fattening four pigs which are approaching 85kg each. When she sells she expects to earn approximately US$680 revenue. After expenses, she should have close to US$300 which will be enough to install a solar system that can power three lights at night. Having light at night is essential for her children to study in the evenings.
This year’s drought has caused issues all over Cambodia and it is no different with OSV. Luckily, she has two teenage sons to help her carry water from the river 250m away.
After installing electricity, she wants to buy more pigs to fatten because she believes it is a reliable way to earn income for substantial improvements to their home.
