Siem Reap, KH – Unused dry plot is transformed into a productive dry season vegetable garden – Dec 2024
The Peaksneng Thormacheat garden shop team has assisted LT to transform an unused dry garden plot into a productive vegetable garden, which has enabled his family to eat healthy food, earn income, and supply needed vegetables to village families during the very dry season in Cambodia.
Peaksneng Thormacheat shop is committed to assisting families to achieve sustainable vegetable growing. The shop team works closely with family gardeners to mentor them about garden management best practices, so that they can improve productivity and quality in order to eat and earn better when they harvest their vegetables. One family gardener is LT, a seasonal gardener who has only grown vegetables during the rainy season in the past.

This dry season, LT’s wife asked him to rebuild the family’s unused plot that was their garden during the 2024 rainy season. So he rebuilt and established the garden measuring around 600 square meters last November, with the assistance of the Peaksneng shop team, and was able to reap their first harvest in December. He has grown cabbage, taro and varieties of lettuce.
His children enjoy gardening as a form of exercise, so they assist with maintaining it. The produce from their garden was intended for their family’s consumption, but it turned out that the harvest was so abundant that they decided to sell the extra vegetables to their friends and neighbors.
The LT family says “Thanks to Peaksneng shop team for assisting us to rebuild our garden and improve our lives during the dry season”.
