Ngara, TZ – Mukerehe Primary School office supplies assistance improves school and community ties – Oct 2024
Mukirehe Primary School, committee, and students thank SODAT for the office and football equipment support that assists students to grow academically and physically.
The school received a laptop, printer, and a photocopy machine that saves the teachers and students time, and energy writing monthly tests on board, and cuts down the printing costs for over 2,915 examination papers needed for each semester. The school is 15Km away from Ngara town, which is the only nearest accessible place for stationary and copying services.
SODAT has encouraged the school and parents to assist with the Grow-own-Breakfast program by rewarding the school with office accessories that make their teaching and learning environment easier and more enjoyable.
Parents were contributing 2,000 TZS annually for stationary services per student at school, now they are contributing 500 TZS for stationary services since the funded office supplies cut down the running cost at school. Students are happy using printed monthly tests which are easier to use and are expected to raise academic results.
The school earned these rewards because it collaborated well with SODAT, and Local government leaders in organizing parents to contribute a portion of their home fields’ harvests to sustain the school breakfast serving because there was insufficient production land at school to satisfy the demand until the next harvest. In their meetings, each parent contributes 7Kgs of corn and 2 Kgs of beans, in addition to their child’s yearly breakfast serving stock contribution, every school day until the next harvest season.
Each year, the school witnesses the students’ attendance and performance growth because of the breakfast serving program at school. The class teachers focus on planning teaching schemes and supervising students during social and sports time, so they enjoy after class sessions and farming projects. This brings together teachers, students, and parents to enjoy assisting each other in the community.
