Ngara, TZ – SJ poultry business is benefiting community families’ lives – Sep 2024
SJ’s poultry business has significantly improved market accessibility for local farmers, allowing families to sell their beef chickens in response to growing demand in nearby Ngara towns. This initiative has not only boosted local commerce but also fostered community ties.
In 2023, the SJ family secured a loan of 4.3 million TZS from SODAT collaboration with her funder BL, to expand his poultry operations, and he repaid the loan three months ahead of scheduled time. Through hard work and negotiation with local farmers for chicken supplies, SJ generates a steady income of 40,000 TZS each week from regular sales and up to 100,000 TZS on auction days. These profits have enabled SJ to begin constructing a modern permanent home, with 15,680,000 TZS invested so far. Additionally, SJ cultivates various crops, including timber, corn, beans, and bananas, providing both sustenance for his family’s food security, and additional income.
SJ understands that success is often accompanied by challenges that are taken as opportunities for business to grow and prosper. He has recognized a gap in education among local farmers regarding sustainable chicken breeding practices, such as proper feeding, vaccination schedules and the use of ventilated sheds and incubators.
SJ aims to enhance sustainability poultry business while safeguarding his entrepreneurship, with committed to a monthly savings of 70,000 TZ to the Village Community Bank “Vicoba” MVG microfinance for his children’s education, home improvements, and will need a capital of 6 Million TZS to launch a shop to supply building materials in his village of Mukibogoye next year.
By fostering local economic growth, This venture will provide the community with easier access to construction supplies with less costs unlike buying 35 Km away from Ngara town. SJ is building a comfortable house for his family, ultimately paving a better pathway to a brighter future for his children’s lives.
