Kilimanjaro, TZ – Successfull Gardening at Lasso Primary School after installing an Irrigation Water System – Sep 2024
Lasso Primary School Children have had a few years of hardship because of lack of easy availability of irrigation water to their Grow-own-Breakfast (GOB) garden. The children, teachers and Lishe Bora team were spending much of their time to walk long steep distances for water, This has been a hindering reason for a continuous harvests of their GOB gardens.
This Lishe Bora Hosting season has had support from True Adventure, UK, which organized students to come over to assist the Lasso community on the improvement of the water infrastructures to the School gardens. It was a great achievements to have water being pumped from the well to the Storage tank at the gardens school farm area.
This has reduced the amount of labor ant time spent to care for the garden and makes lives much more easier. Ultimately the production of the gardens in terms of vegetables and bananas has been increased due to the easier access to enough water,
The excess harvests have now created a need to find the proper market for selling the bananas for making an income, which is important to the sustainability of the garden.
Thieves are stealing from the school harvests, so the school is facing the challenge of security of their garden because they garden does not have a protective fence. So the school is facing both security and market challenges.
