Moshi,TZ – Ward council meeting emphasises need to improve community health – Nov 2023

The Kahe Ward community is advancing its realization of the key role of healthy people in its society, together with economic and social development, for maintaining peace and well being. This thinking advancement is benefiting stakeholders in government, private sector, NGO’s and most importantly the people of the community. At a recent council meeting they were able to enjoy learning about different strategies that could improve practicality for building their society’s health.

At a recent Ward council meeting, Tupendane was invited with other participants to share its experience with the invited stakeholders mentioned above. Some Tupendane Programs were highlighted as good practice examples to be considered for more support from both Government and other available sources. The School Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (SWASH) program, which includes building toilets, kitchen and drinking water infrastructure at schools, and the Grow own Breakfast (GOB) program assisting children to grow their own school breakfast were highlighted.

At the end of the meeting its invited members were asked to share some dreams of how they wish to see the health of the community improving for different age groups. They responded that they want the children and old people to be given more priority among the age classes. The District Agricultural office offered a free soil testing of all the school farms participating in the GOB program with Tupendane, in order provide proper soil knowledge for growing more predictable harvests for the school children’s meals.
