Utete, TZ – Utete Secondary School feeding program – 28 Feb 2022
Utete Secondary School feeding program has made an agreement with Dickson the KCM manager for delivery services for ingredients. KCM will also assist the school with training in organic gardening methods so that they can improve the students’ nutrition and health with organically grown vegetables.
The school vegetable garden club harvests and sells vegetables from their garden to the school for feeding boarding students. Local families who have gardens also sell their harvest to the school to close any ingredient supply gap. The school club and parents use the income from selling the vegetables to pay for running costs like seeds and water bills.
The club students will receive training from KCM about vegetable bed formation, making natural pest repellant and growth booster sprays and compost production. The objective is to give the club a lower cost and safer alternative to using the readily available chemical sprays that are especially dangerous to health when too much is used.
The KCM team is now dreaming of assisting the club students with gardening production knowledge and skills for self-sufficient production.
