Moshi, TZ – Kahe community seeks a natural balance between Donkeys and Grow-own-Breakfast program for their Children – 31 Aug 2021
Finally, we all agree with ” love to children first” by being one team through collaboration among Ward and Village government leaders, Schools committees, Donkey owners, and Tupendane representatives all together in One Picture to represent Consensus.
In the middle of this 2021 Grow-own-Breakfast we encountered a unique experience whereby a number of Donkeys showed up on a few occasions in Maendeleo and Oria primary schools farms enjoying their life by grazing on children’s healthy growing corns while on our sad side we ended up losing a significant amount of corns for the Children’s breakfast. This triggered a natural call for serious actions by all stakeholders to address the challenge.
Tupendane participated by initiating, organizing and leading a few field meetings in the community until a balanced consensus among us was established. The donkey owners decided to take the responsibility of paying for the watchmen who will ensure no donkey will get into the schools’ farms, and the ward government will lead the process by coordinating and supervising the necessary measures so that we all see the children harvest and feed on their breakfast, which Tupendane, parents, teachers, children and the local village government together are investing in.

These achievements are going to benefit all stakeholder by improving good relations between Local Government, Donkey owners, Schools and Tupendane so there will not be any risk to anyone after its implementation. The Children will win the harvests for their meals, parents and teachers are going to release stress of feeding the children , Donkey owners will still run their transportation business and gain their income for their families, and government will enjoy peace and successes for Donkey owners and schools while Tupendane will be full of Joy by seeing children and teachers’ health improved by availability of a balanced diet every school day, which will result in their best education performance for the future of themselves and their happy families.
The future natural human population growth, the number of Donkey owners, and the capacity of the government to arrange available land space to accommodate everyone in harmony will be a challenge. Donkey owners may have to either shift to a different area or village, adapt to a different lifestyle or other means of transport like adopting the use of the three wheel motorbikes for their transport business.
Tupendane is looking forward to collaborate with other interested stakeholders and Development partners to improve community projects, like assisting schools to build proper fences like other serious farmers in the area have. This will reduce the risk of destroying relationships within community and avoid any unnecessary loss.
