Utete, TZ – Asha is growing vegetables for the kindergarten breakfast again – 15 June 2021
Asha is now strong enough to work in the garden growing vegetables for the kindergarten breakfast. She has completed her treatment and is back to work with her fellow KCM teammates.
Her bad health prevented her from having the energy to focus on her KCM duties and developing her sewing business. The KCM team were very worried and pleaded with her to visit a doctor, which she finally agreed to do. After her check-up with the doctor, she learned that she had been living with a health condition for five years that could be remedied by a safe and straight-forward surgery. After the procedure, she exclaimed that she felt 100% improved! Her strength and motivation returned, which was excellent because team member Dickson’s business was growing and he had less time for garden work. She is even taking over the bookkeeper role because of Frank’s retirement from the team.
She also wants to build up her sewing business. Sadly, due to the ongoing pandemic, many people don’t have money to purchase new clothes so expansion will have to wait until COVID has passed. For now, she is earning income by repairing clothes. She is also considering adding a hair-cutting salon so her husband and son can provide hair and shaving services to the local community. This is a good idea because the Utete area is growing, and there are even plans to open a secondary and a primary school next year.
