Ngara, TZ – Mukibogoye ends another successful year of harvests – 15 Nov 2020
Mukibogoye Primary School’s Breakfast Club Garden successfully provided veg for another full year. even with the coronavirus challenge. The team their looks for a better 2021.
In 2020, Mukibogoye Primary school successfully harvested over 8,600 KG (19,000 LBs) of vegetables from their 98 garden beds! Due to the good efforts of Shafan, Elias, and some garden club students. The team was able to maintain and benefit from the garden during the school lockdown. The veg was distributed to needy garden cub students and the community.
The Mukibogoye garden club was so successful this year, they received visitors from other schools looking to start their own school gardens. The representative wanted to learn more about advanced gardening techniques that restore the health of the soil while increasing weekly garden yields.
Their hardest challenge is managing the garden during rainy season. Garden beds can flood if they aren’t properly channeled. Additionally pests increase during this time. Ngara recieves a significant amount of rain, so it’s a matter of staying on top of the garden when the team has a dry moment.
They hope to expand their current gardens from 98 beds to 120 without increasing the cost of the gardens. Additionally, They hope to expand their gardening program to other schools.
