Kilimanjaro, TZ – OFM Family Maintains Small Sustainable Efforts to Reach Goal – 15 Feb 2019
Over the past year, Mama OFM saved money by eating and selling extra vegetables from her Family Garden instead of purchasing them from the market. She was able to save enough to pay for the digging of a new pit latrine.
Currently, her family is using a shallow drop pit, causing potential sanitation and hygienic issues. Shallow drop pits cost less but are not as sanitary as deeper latrines. Mama OFM owns a small shop in the market, she saves her own income by eating from the garden, but also sells any extra vegetables she has. By saving and investing in her new latrine, she will be significantly improving the overall health of her family.
She was on track to finishing the full latrine project as well as adding some rooms to her home but began facing challenges when her sponsor past away suddenly. The unfortunate and unexpected passing of her sponsor has forced her to regroup and plan out the next steps for completing both projects.
Currently, Mama OFM is focused on finishing the project herself through her income and savings as well as adding a few more rooms to her home.
