Siem Reap, KH – Learning skills and adding productive assets increases family’s income – 30 Sep 2017
The LC family has been increasing skills and adding productive assets like starting a small shop, learning welding and building a trailer. The money earned from these assets is in addition to the father’s teaching salary and the income from the family’s vegetable growing and livestock.
This income means that the family has been able to purchase a small solar panel and lights, add an irrigation system for their garden and repair their small home’s roof. It also means that they are getting closer to realizing their dream of living in a better home.
They have two school aged children and a 5 month old girl. They also care for a sow that is one of the twelve children of one of the piglets they purchased with the livestock loan in 2015.
The family’s health has been improving because they are eating more nutrient rich fresh, and less chemically grown, vegetables. These home grown vegetables have also increased their disposable income because they buy less food in the market, which means they have more money for school expenses.
Their dream of living in a better home is very important to them because they want their children to study and read in a comfortable home by electric light during the evenings and therefore improve their education.
