Moshe, TZ – Family invests garden profits into chicken business – 22 Oct 2014
The MGT family started their garden in February, 2014. Since then the family has shown steady improvements as they have gained knowledge and experience about organic vegetable gardening.
Since starting their garden the family has sold 70,000 TZS (US $43.75) of vegetables. The mother of the family estimates they have also saved 60,000 TZS ($37.50) by not having to buy vegetables, even though they eat vegetables every day now.
This income has helped the family consistently afford basic necessities and has even provided extra capital to invest in a chicken business. An original flock of just a few chicks is now 17 chickens that produce eggs and can be sold for cash during the holidays. This business has proven successful so the family is interested in continuing to expand this business as their income increases.
