Moshi, TZ – Maendeleo primary school garden – 11 Oct 2013
The Maendeleo garden is facing a challenge with two of the twelve beds, Mama Peter (the Tupendane team mama in charge of the garden) and the teachers think that the root cause is that the soil is too alkaline. The Tupendane team is going to test the soil Ph to determine the soil’s alkalinity. If the soil proves to be too alkaline, then the team will remove all the soil from the two beds and replace it with new soil mixed with compost and rice hull charcoal.
Kahe is a very windy area, so when the wind picks up the garden paths become covered with mulch which can sometimes attract unwanted pests. The school team will remove any mulch that collects on the pathways as much as possible to avoid this problem.
