Siem Reap, KH – PMI joins the Peaksneng Garden Shop team – 20 Sep 2013
The Peaksneng Garden Shop has hired PMI to assist with building gardens for families and making all the inputs that go into the garden program. The father of three worked for the local church farm before a management change left him with no consistent income and forced him and his young family to move back with his parents.
PMI is an experienced farmer who is always looking to improve his family’s life. He goes to great lengths to ensure that his children are being fed properly and that he has the money to send them to school. Although he is a quiet man, he is shrewd with his money and is able to save towards his family’s future.
After leaving the church farm, he was forced to go to the border of Thailand to find consistent income. Things did not go well for him in Thailand and he was forced to move back to Siem Reap with his parents. He found work as a seasonal laborer in a rice farm near his home but it was not enough to support his family. He soon discovered that his old employer at the church farm, Reynaldo Diez, was starting an organic gardening program and went to him to ask for a job. Reynaldo enjoyed working with PMI, so he hired him as part of his core garden team.
PMI is now happy to be earning a consistent income with the garden shop and has great pride in the work he is doing for his community’s development.
